Special Educational Needs
Do you have a child with SEN or suspect they need extra support with their learning?
We asked 1,003 parents living in the UK with children aged 4-14.*
More than one in four parents (27%) told us that they had a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
A staggering 28% of parents told us that they don't think children with SEN have access to sufficient academic support.*
*Research conducted by Atomik Research Insights & Analytics (part of 4Media Group) *77 out of the 275 respondents who told us that they have at least one child with SEN.
You’re not alone…
According to the January 2022 Census over 1.1 million pupils in school (12.6%) are receiving some sort of special educational needs (SEN) support, however only 4% of pupils have an education, health and care (EHC) plan in place.
David, featured below, has Austistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which is the most common need of children with an EHC plan, affecting over 103,000 children in England.

My advice for other parents whose children might have SEN is to keep talking to the teachers and tutors, share with them what happens to your child at home and in school, what he/she is good at, what they dislike, inform them of the lessons they are having issues within the school, show the tutors your child’s school reports, etc. In short, just actively engage with their education.
Where do parents find extra support for their child with SEN?
From our research it appears there's some confusion about where parents can source extra support for their child with SEN.
55% of parents wouldn't know where to ask for SEN academic support
74% of parents would consider paying for extracurricular tuition to support a child with SEN.
That's where we come in!
Our 10 year old daughter has shown significant progress in English and maths since her 121 online sessions started. Both her confidence and enthusiasm for learning have massively improved... We are so grateful for the support Explore are giving her in the lead up to her SATs in year 6. Thank you!

Our son has been doing online lessons during Years 8 and 9. He finds it engaging and really enjoys his sessions. Also, it's helped him immensely at school. His maths teacher told us that only twelve other students had reached his level in maths, amongst 360 students in his year. She is planning for him to do further maths at GCSE. His English teacher said that he is at the top of his class. I don't think any of that would have happened without the additional input of Explore Learning.

I am extremely happy with Explore Learning! My daughter Mila started a few years ago and then since Covid she has one to one online lessons. She has just successfully passed 11+ exams to the best Grammar Schools in our area and we could not be happier. Explore Learning plays a huge part not only in Mila’s academic achievements but also in building her confidence, curiosity and love for learning. Thank you so much!
