Learning with friends: Bring a friend for free this October!
It’s true that learning is more fun with friends but the benefits extend much deeper.
Learning alongside friends plays a crucial role in children's development, fostering not only social and emotional skills but also academic growth. Studies highlight 4 key benefits that can come from learning in an environment with your peers:
Improved academic performance: Research shows that when children learn with friends, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. They can also make more academic progress. Collaborative learning helps children explain concepts to one another, reinforcing their understanding. A study by the Education Endowment Foundation, found that this process can accelerate academic progress by an average of five additional months.
Enhanced social skills: Working with friends encourages teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Children learn how to share ideas, listen actively, and respect others' perspectives. This social interaction builds crucial interpersonal skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Increased emotional well-being: Learning with friends can reduce stress and anxiety. Being in a supportive group fosters a sense of belonging and confidence, which is essential for emotional resilience. A 2020 study by Oxford University highlighted that children who felt connected to their peers were less likely to experience loneliness or emotional distress.
Developing a growth mindset: Peer learning encourages children to see challenges as opportunities. With friends by their side, they are more likely to persevere through difficult tasks. A survey by the Sutton Trust reported that students working collaboratively demonstrated greater perseverance and were more likely to develop a growth mindset.
This October we’re giving Explore members the chance to attend a special session with a friend. This free, additional session will give your child the chance to share their love of learning at Explore. They will spend an hour doing interactive maths and English activities as well as playing some learning games with a tutor.
