FAQs
How much availability should I provide?
We’d like to know the maximum number of days and hours you could work– this doesn’t mean you’ll work all of the hours you provide, but the more flexible you can be, the more likely you will be matched with a centre.
What are my minimum contracted hours?
Our tutors are contracted to work a minimum of 6 hours each week, which typically works out as two or three shifts. If you are only looking to work 6 hours per week, please still include all possible days/times that you are available, as you can indicate how many hours you would like to work within the times that you have selected.
What if my availability is limited?
If your availability is limited, it may be tricky for us to match you with shifts, so you will likely be added to our talent community until different shifts become available or your availability changes. Our teams have specific shifts at set times; therefore, we can’t guarantee that the availability that you provide will match with the shifts that are available at the time.
When and how can I work?
Most of our centres offer both in-person and online sessions for their members; we also have several virtual “Explore at Home” centres who operate entirely online. This means that tutors can work:
Exclusively online
Exclusively in a centre
A combination of both
If you are keen to do both, please include any centres that you can commute to, as well as ticking that you are happy to work online too. Please note, you will need to be at least 17 years old to do online shifts.
What are typical centre (in-person) shifts?
Our centre-based shifts typically last 3.5 hours and on weekdays, begin in 15-minute increments including 3pm, 3.15pm, 3.45pm, 4pm, 4.15pm and 4.30pm at the latest. Most of our centres are open Tuesday-Saturday (with a few opening Mondays too), and you can find specific information about opening times for your local centres on our website by selecting the relevant centre.
Typically, centre opening times are:
Tues – Thurs 3pm-8pm
Friday 3pm-6pm
Saturday 9am-5pm
What are typical online shifts?
Our online shifts typically involve tutoring two or three sessions in a row which are 1 hour long, and these sessions are either a 1:1 or 1:3 ratio with students. Therefore, tutors typically work two or three shifts a week to meet the 6-hour minimum.
Our online member sessions invariably begin at the following times:
Mon – Thurs at 3:20pm, 4:25pm, 5:30pm and 6:35pm
Friday at 3:20pm and 4:25pm
Saturday at various times from 9:30am to around4:30pm
Most tutors work weekdays at 4:25pm and 5:30pm as these are most popular for our members.
What does the weekly shift pattern look like?
Our members have their sessions booked for the same time each week, so our teams use a rota system where tutors are matched up with member sessions and so work the same shifts every week. When you need time off, your manager will find cover for your shifts.
Due to this, we won’t offer regularly alternating shifts as you won’t then see the same families, and we do not have any holiday exclusive tutoring roles. If you are a student who has a two-week timetable, we would suggest that you only include the days and times that you would be able to regularly work each week.
Can I work on a Saturday only?
Saturday shifts are extremely popular with our tutors, so most available shifts are on weekdays. Therefore we look for tutors to offer availability across the week. If you can’t work during the week, it’s unlikely we will be able to get your started as centres don’t have 6 hours of work to offer one person on one day. If you can work on a weekday but with a later start time, please still include this on your form, as we occasionally have shifts that start as late as 5:30pm, especially for online sessions.
Does this role offer shifts all year round?
Yes! You will work consistently during term time, and during the school holidays; our member sessions remain the same through the entire year, so your term time availability will be most relevant. Any changes to your availability during the holidays can be discussed with your centre manager.
